Luka and a whole host of firsts!

Monday marked Luka's first day of school.  Now I must point out to all those people crying out that this is just cruel, sending a 3.5 month old baby to school, that school is a pretty big word for where Luka goes.  It is a Baby Centre and there are exactly 6 babies in class.  So she gets loads and loads of love and attention, the fact that she is so very cute helps A LOT!

On Sunday when I started labelling all her things I recalled doing the same for Liam two and a half years ago (remember the lucky bugger had 6 months at home).  I cried when I did Liam's things, because to me marking clothes and bottles was always something done for kids in boarding schools only...

Well, needless to say, no tears where shed for Luka's labels, cute pink labels with butterflies.  Adorable.  I enjoyed adorning her things.

On Monday morning, we dressed her in her pink Paris Hilton tracksuit and off we went.  She loved it, remember having been at home with Sekai for the past 3.5 months meant that she does not get out often, so imagine her delight at seeing 5 new babies and two teachers.

On Tuesday I had to be in Sandton very early on in the morning, so poor Gerhard had to drop off both of them at school.  Liam then interrogated poor Luka's teacher.  According to Gerhard he demanded to see where her cot was, where they changed her nappy, if they used enough bumcream etc.  Imagine a little finger wagging if you will!

Cringe...you can just imagine the teacher telling her husband all about this in the evening.  Its scary when you start seeing small parts of yourself (usually not the good parts) in your kids.

Yesterday Luka went for her 16 week injections and according to the clinic sister, we can introduce solid food, so last night she had her very first taste of oli.  With Liam I spent days steaming fruit and making purees.  And then the ungrateful little thing decided not to eat apples / pears.  So with Luka its oli (organic store bought) and if she likes it we will see about a bit of a cookathon...we will see.

So all in all, life is good, the kids are doing well and we are still sleeping :)

I had a stunning Louis Vuiton Bag

I love handbags, I am crazy about them, I would forgo food for a good handbag.  Everybody has a 'thing' and mine simply happens to be handbags.  Big ones, small ones, madly expensive ones and el cheapos that you get at the flea market, grey ones hand crafted by old ladies at the old age home, shiny metally ones.  I love handbags. Well guess what?  No, not that Guess, not as in the handbag...I now have a diaper bag.  A red one, and it needs to double as my handbag.  There is just no way in hell that I can manage a two (almost three!) year old, a two week old, a diaper bag and a handbag, something had to give and in this case, it was my poor almost new chunky Louis Vuiton bag.  I miss it already... The thing is, when you have a baby, some things are just not meant to be. At least this time around, I have managed to paint my nails (all of them, fingers and toes) twice, and I have worn make up on at least four separate occasions.  With Liam a...

Liam and growing up

It struck me about five minutes ago how fast Liam has grown up since I fell pregnant with Luka.  Let me use an example, Gerhard had to leave the house really early this morning to go and play golf.  Liam is still a bit phlegmy, so he is still nebulised morning and evening - Gerhard's job.  Refer to previous posts about pregnancy paranoia and you will clearly understand that there is just no way in hell that I can nebulise Liam. So this morning the two of us eat our breakfast and then its time to nebulize, and I tell Liam he will just have to do this on his own, poor thing.  So there is my two year old boy sitting on the couch nebulising himself, my heart actually broke into pieces. He also got his very first set of golf clubs yesterday, not the plastic variety but mini golf clubs in a proper bag.  He is just so chuffed with himself!  He actually called his Oupa Hansie yesterday to show him his golf clubs (over the phone yes).  He could not con...

On the eve of my first protest

It is the eve of my first ever protest about anything really.  I am a little scared, a little excited, a little apprehensive but extremely motivated.  For those not following South African politics, our President last week fired our honest Minister of Finance and the South African economy took a tumble and we were downgraded to junk status by ratings agencies. Economic and political uncertainty ensued all because of one man’s greed and corruption.  Junk status has dire implications for our country and as always the people who will be most affected are the poorest of the poor.  Interest rates will rise, so will inflation and food prices, jobs will be lost, the list of horrible things goes on. Ordinary South Africans have now had enough and for the first time ever people from all walks of life are united behind a common cause, to save South Africa.  I have never in my 40 years on this earth been moved by any cause, not enough to actually take...
